Apple rarely names its products early on. This makes it all the more interesting when hints of upcoming devices appear in the code. That's exactly what happened with the AirPods Pro 3. A clear reference to a previously unannounced model was found in the pre-release version of iOS 26. This means the third generation of AirPods Pro is probably closer than you think.

The tip comes from Steve Moser, a developer who regularly searches for hidden information in Apple systems (via MacRumors ). In a UI framework for headphones, he came across three entries: AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and the brand new AirPods Pro 3. This model doesn't officially exist yet, but the entry is a clear indication that Apple is working on a new model behind the scenes. The same framework was recently updated. Where previously it only mentioned AirPods Pro 2, it now says "AirPods Pro 2 or later." This is also a clear indication that a new version is in the works.

New design: slimmer and closer to the AirPods 4

It's currently assumed that the AirPods Pro 3 will undergo a visual change. The charging case, in particular, is expected to be redesigned – possibly based on what was implemented for the regular fourth-generation AirPods: a slimmer, more manageable case with optimized internals. The earbuds themselves could also be made more compact without compromising the fit or sound quality.

New audio chip with better features

Another upgrade is said to be the audio processor. Apple is apparently working on a new chip that will provide faster connections, improved noise cancellation, and overall higher audio quality. This means more stable connections, less lag when streaming or making phone calls, and clearer sound – even in noisy environments.

Health features: AirPods Pro 3 could measure more than just sound

In addition to sound and design, there are rumors about new sensors. Specifically, there's talk of a heart rate sensor and temperature measurement. This would expand the AirPods Pro 3 into a health gadget. A possible addition to the Apple Watch, for example, or a standalone option for recording health data directly from the ear is conceivable.

Release date: Autumn 2025 is realistic

Of course, there's no official date yet. But based on the clear mention in the iOS 26 code, many assume that Apple will unveil the AirPods Pro 3 this fall. This would fit well with Apple's usual release cycles. A launch alongside the new iPhone is quite possible, perhaps even in September.

The evidence for the AirPods Pro 3 is increasing

The AirPods Pro 3 haven't been officially announced yet, but all signs point to their arrival in the coming months. The iOS code entries, the renaming of existing names, and rumors surrounding design, technology, and features all fit together. If you're waiting for a new model, it's worth staying tuned.
