Apple is facing major changes. After recent years characterized by minor product updates, 2027 is set to see a major technological explosion. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports on a "product renaissance" with which Apple intends to usher in a new era. Plans include a foldable iPhone, new AI products, a redesigned Siri, and even robots. Here's an overview of what's coming your way.

If you've been wondering lately when Apple will come up with something truly new, you're not alone. The company has regularly introduced new models, but genuine innovations have been lacking. According to Mark Gurman, this isn't the end of the story, but rather the calm before the storm. Apple has a series of new devices and technologies planned for 2027 that could change a lot – for you as a user and for the market as a whole.

The foldable iPhone is coming

The planned product offensive will kick off with a new foldable iPhone. This device is scheduled to launch in late 2026 , alongside the iPhone 18. Compared to other foldable smartphones like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Apple aims to impress with several unique features. Among other things, a display without a visible crease and a titanium casing are planned. This will likely make the device not only more stable but also visually distinguish it from the competition. The price is likely to be on the higher end, as Apple is focusing on premium quality.

Anniversary model: 20 years of iPhone

In 2027, the iPhone will celebrate its 20th anniversary. A completely redesigned model is expected for this occasion. Much isn't known yet, but according to Gurman, it will be a glass, curved iPhone—without any notches in the display. Whether Face ID or the camera will disappear completely beneath the display remains unclear. The only thing that is certain is that the device will stand out significantly from the current design.

New AI hardware in the works

In addition to the iPhones, Apple is working on several new hardware products that rely heavily on artificial intelligence. A particular focus is on smart glasses that are intended to compete with products like the Ray-Ban Meta. Apple is developing special chips for this that are optimized for AI applications. The glasses themselves will be equipped with cameras, microphones and speakers and will be able to actively perceive the environment. There are also developments in other product categories. New models are planned for the AirPods and the Apple Watch, which will also be equipped with cameras and AI functions. The goal is to integrate visual intelligence - that is, the recognition and processing of visual information - more strongly into everyday life.

Siri is being completely redesigned

A major update is also coming to Siri. The voice assistant is scheduled to be fundamentally redesigned by 2027 and will be based on new AI technologies. Apple is developing its own silicon-based server chips for this purpose and plans to run Siri based on so-called Large Language Models (LLMs) in the future. This technology enables significantly more natural conversations and a better understanding of your queries. Some of these innovations were originally planned for iOS 19. Due to delays, the new, conversational user interface will now be introduced with iOS 20.

Robots in the household

Another area where Apple is planning new developments is robotics. Gurman reports that Apple is working on a robotic device for the table. This device will have a movable arm and its own AI personality. The entire thing will be controlled via a new smart home hub, which was supposed to be released already but has been repeatedly postponed. How exactly the robot will be used is not yet entirely clear. A smart assistant that helps around the house or assists you with certain tasks is conceivable.

Future devices after 2027

Apple is also planning new products beyond 2027. One of these is a combination of iPad and Mac—a foldable device with a touchscreen that will combine the features of both product lines. However, according to Gurman, the market launch isn't expected before 2028. Until then, it remains to be seen exactly how Apple will implement this hybrid.

What Apple plans to do in 2027 – and why it will be exciting

Apple appears to be preparing for a new phase. With foldable devices, smart AI, new product categories, and revamped classics, the company aims to regain its innovative power in 2027. While some dates may still be postponed, there are many indications that you can expect some exciting developments. The next few years could be really interesting for Apple fans again.
