According to a new report, there could be a second display for Mac users in the future alongside the Apple Pro Display XDR that will be more affordable.
Currently, consumers who need an external display for their Mac must either pay a hefty premium for the Pro Display XDR (starting at 5,499 euros) or choose another brand. A report on Apple's future range of displays has been predicting for some time that an alternative option could be made available by Apple itself. Now writes Mark Gurman stated in his recent Bloomberg "Power On" newsletter that he "strongly believes" Apple is working on a new "external monitor for its latest Macs." Gurman emphasized that a more affordable monitor "would be a big seller for those looking to upgrade their new MacBook Pro with a larger screen without spending the equivalent of a luxury car down payment on the Pro Display XDR."

Production costs for the Pro Display XDR have "probably gone down" since its launch. With a few improvements and a slight reduction in brightness, Apple could offer a similarly high-quality, slightly smaller monitor for half the price, Gurman says. Recently, there were reports that LG is working on a trio of displays based on the current Pro Display XDR and iMac sizes, which could bear the Apple name. The rumors suggest the displays will be 24-, 27-, and 32-inch, with the latter possibly supporting mini-LED backlighting and a 120 Hz refresh rate. However, the release date remains unknown.
