Back in July, it was reported that Apple was testing a new external display with a special A13 chip and a Neural Engine. Now a leaker has released further information.
Dylandkt has been one of the most prominent leakers regarding Apple announcements in recent months. Now he has new details published, which focus on three displays that are currently still in an early phase of development.
There are three LG-made displays in unbranded cases for use as external monitors that are in early development. Two of them have the same specifications as the upcoming 27-inch and current 24-inch iMac displays. The other display appears to be an upgraded 32-inch Pro Display XDR. Despite the lack of branding, it can at least be assumed that this display will be branded by Apple.
New Pro Display XDR could appear with its own chip
Dylan goes on to write that "there seems to be a reference to a custom silicon powering the 32-inch display," which could be the next generation of the 2019 Pro Display XDR. At the same time, he believes the other 24- and 27-inch displays won't feature custom silicon, as he hasn't been able to find any evidence of it. Another detail about these displays is that the 27- and 32-inch monitors "appear to have MiniLED displays and a variable refresh rate of 120 Hz," which aligns with a recent report from DSCC that the next iMac Pro will feature these technologies and this display size.
