After people were tricked into giving their verification code to criminals last year, WhatsApp is finally planning a way to prevent this. To be precise, it plans to integrate an additional layer of protection that takes effect when you first log in.
Loud WABetaInfo WhatsApp is developing a double verification code to improve user privacy and security. When you try to register your phone number on another smartphone, an additional verification code will be requested in addition to the first verification code sent via SMS, the publication explains. WhatsApp will then display the following message:

The number XXX is already in use for WhatsApp on another phone. To make sure you have control of your account, you'll need to confirm another verification code. For added security, you'll need to wait for the timer to expire before you can send the code. When you receive the code, enter it here.
WABetaInfo explains that if the first attempt to log into a WhatsApp account is successful, another 6-digit code is required to complete the process. Then, another message is sent to the phone number owner to let them know that an attempt has just been made to log into their account. Since this is a feature that is still under development, it remains unclear if and when it will see the light of day. Still, it is very interesting to see a third layer of protection on WhatsApp. In case you don't already know, apart from the 6-digit code that you have to enter when logging in on a new phone, you can also enable a 6-digit PIN to prevent unwanted access.
