Apple's last iPod, the venerable iPod touch, has now officially been discontinued and will not be replaced once stocks run out.

It hasn't been updated since 2019. The iPod touch was not only the last iPod, it was also the cheaper entry into iOS for many users. explained Greg Joswiak, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple:

Apple retires the iPod brand

Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and making it accessible to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did not only impacted the music industry, it redefined how music is discovered, listened to and shared. Today, the spirit of iPod lives on. We've built an incredible music experience into all of our products, from iPhone to Apple Watch and HomePod mini to Mac, iPad and Apple TV. And Apple Music offers industry-leading sound quality with support for spatial audio—there's no better way to enjoy, discover and experience music.

Apple's iPod line was replaced by the iPhone, which for a while even called its music app "iPod." The iPod touch was introduced in 2007, shortly after the iPhone, and offered users a full iOS experience.

Apart from making phone calls, he could use the same apps as the iPhone, but at a price of around 200 euros – and without monthly fees (still available on Amazon). With the end of the iPod touch, Apple's cheapest entry into iOS is now the iPhone SE. (Image: Apple)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
