Apple TV celebrated the world premiere of the fourth season of Ted Lasso with a special event in Los Angeles on Monday evening. The press release finally confirmed the premise the series had been building towards for the past year and a half. The guest list also included two Apple CEOs – the current and the incoming one.

The premiere took place on July 27th at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, just over a week before the actual series premiere. The date has been set since April: the first episode will be released worldwide on Apple TV on August 5th. For the event, Apple rolled out a blue carpet instead of a red one – in the club colors of the fictional AFC Richmond, whose nickname, the Greyhounds, also gave the event its name.

Ted Lasso takes over a women's team

The storyline sees Ted return to Richmond to coach a second-division women's team. According to Apple, the season revolves around Ted and the team acting impulsively, taking risks they wouldn't have dared to take before.

This confirms what was already being discussed as a possible focus area in February 2025. Approximately eighteen months have passed between the initial indication and the official confirmation.

Familiar faces and seven new additions

The core cast includes Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift. New additions include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely. With the exception of Goldstein, who serves as a writer and executive producer, all of the aforementioned actors were present.

A change behind the scenes

Less visible, but significant in terms of content, is a personnel change in the production: Jack Burditt takes over as showrunner for the fourth season and is on board as part of a new overall deal with Apple TV. Bill Lawrence, who developed the series together with Sudeikis, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt, remains involved as an executive producer through his company Doozer Productions. Production continues in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television.

Two CEOs on the blue carpet

In one of the official premiere photos, Tim Cook and John Ternus are pictured alongside the cast. Their joint appearance comes at a remarkable time, as Cook is handing over the CEO position to Ternus on September 1st, transitioning to the role of Executive Chairman. This leaves just under five weeks between the premiere and the handover.

The launch is on August 5th.

The first three seasons are already available in their entirety on Apple TV. The series has played a special role for Apple over the years: The first season was the most Emmy-nominated comedy series, and the first two seasons each won awards for Best Comedy Series. According to the company, Apple Originals have now garnered a total of 852 awards and 3,804 nominations.
