As expected, Apple unveiled the brand new iPad Pro 2021 series at the “Spring Loaded” event and made some interesting changes.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which was introduced during the “Spring Loaded” event presented differs from the 11-inch update by using a new display that Apple calls Liquid Retina XDR. For this iteration, Apple uses mini-LED technology. It houses 10,000 mini-LEDs behind the 12.9-inch screen, using significantly more light sources than the 72 LEDs on the previous model. Overall, the display can output 1,000 nits at full screen brightness and 1,600 nits at peak brightness. The benefit of this technology is similar to the Pro Display XDR. But the iPad Pro goes even further. Due to the sheer number of mini-LEDs, it has 2,596 local dimming zones, achieving a contrast ratio of 1 million to 1.

iPad Pro 2021 gets the M1 chip

In addition to the display improvements, the 12.9-inch model has the same screen features as the 11-inch model, including ProMotion, True Tone, and P3 Wide Color support. Of course, it's higher resolution than its little brother at 2,732 x 2,048 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 264ppi. Along with the display upgrade, it has the same internal changes as its 11-inch counterpart, including the use of the eight-core M1 chip with an 8-core GPU. It's paired with 8GB on the 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage models, with the capacity increasing to 16GB on the 1TB and 2TB versions. There's a Thunderbolt 4 port in the base, allowing connection to external devices at up to 40Gbps. The port also includes support for USB 4. The updates also extend to 5G connectivity, bringing it on par with the iPhone 12 in offering users faster mobile internet access.

iPad Pro 2021: Maximum configuration costs 2,579 euros

On the back is the Pro camera system, which combines a 12-megapixel wide-angle and a 10-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and offers 2x optical zoom. The cameras are capable of recording 4K video at up to 60fps, with slo-mo at 1080p 240fps. On the front, the TrueDepth camera uses a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and can record 1080p video at 60fps. Audio is the usual four-speaker setup of the iPad Pro, plus five studio-quality microphones for calls and audio recording. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is available in silver and space gray starting at €1,199, with the 2TB model with cellular functionality (€200 extra) even costing €2,579. The 11-inch model, on the other hand, starts at 879 euros and costs around 2,259 euros in the maximum configuration. Pre-orders will be accepted from April 30th. Delivery is scheduled to begin in the second half of May. (Image: Apple)
