Camera, display, battery, and back glass for the iPhone 18 Pro can now be ordered directly from Apple, including in the German store. Replacement parts for the current Mac Studio and Mac mini are also available. The iPhone Duo is not yet on the list.
Apple has expanded its Self Service Repair Store to include its latest devices. New additions include genuine parts for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the Mac Studio with M5 Max or M5 Ultra, and the Mac mini with M6 or M5 Pro. These parts also include repair manuals with step-by-step instructions.
The program has been running in Germany since December 2022, when Apple brought self-repair to Europe. Parts for the MacBook Neo and the iPhone 17e were added most recently in April.
Key Facts at a Glance
- There are 13 repair categories for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, ranging from camera and display to Taptic Engine and SIM tray.
- The camera costs €299 in the German store, or €227.24 after returning the old part.
- The tool set can be rented for seven days for €54.74.
- Mac Studio and Mac mini are also included, along with components such as fans, power supplies, and logic boards.
- Parts for the iPhone Duo are not yet available in the store.
These parts are available for the iPhone 18 Pro
The German store lists the same categories for both Pro models: battery, display, camera, front camera, rear glass, casing, logic board, main microphone, top and bottom speakers, SIM tray, Taptic Engine, and other parts. The rear glass panels are available in all four casing colors, and the battery comes in two versions: one for devices with a SIM tray and one for eSIM-only devices.
Those who return their old device to Apple will receive a partial refund. Prices in the German store as of October 20th:
| Part | iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone 18 Pro Max | Credit for the old part | Price after credit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Camera | 299,00 € | 299,00 € | 71,76 € | 227,24 € |
| Display | 405,00 € | 488,99 € | 20,25 € / 24,45 € | 384,75 € / 464,54 € |
| Battery | 149,00 € | 149,00 € | 71,52 € | 77,48 € |
| Rear lens | 169,00 € | 169,00 € | 40,56 € | 128,44 € |
The battery holder for eSIM devices on the Pro Max is currently listed as "Available soon", while the holder for devices with a SIM slot is available for order.
Buy or rent tools
Apple offers a tool kit for repairs. For the iPhone 18 Pro, it costs €54.74 for seven days in the German store. Alternatively, individual tools can be purchased, from a tape cutter for €0.64 to a heated display case for €412.05.
In addition, there are small parts that are required for almost every repair: adhesive tape for the display and back glass for €1.79 each, screws in the four case colors for €0.20 each.
Austria and Switzerland
The store serves all three German-speaking countries. In Austria, the camera costs the same €299 as in Germany, and the credit of €71.76 is also applied. In the Swiss store, the same camera costs CHF 269, or CHF 204.44 after the credit. In the US, Apple lists the item at $249.
Mac Studio and Mac mini
For the Mac Studio with M5 Max or M5 Ultra, Apple lists components including Thunderbolt and USB-C ports, fans, speakers, SSD modules, logic boards, and power supplies. For the Mac mini with M6 or M5 Pro, the German store lists 15 categories, including fans, power supply, speakers, power button, front USB-C ports, and Wi-Fi antennas.
Where self-repair is worthwhile
I find the offer particularly interesting for the battery. After the credit, the original part costs €77.48, while the replacement with the borrowed tool kit costs €132.22. The credit for the display, however, is small: only €20.25 is deducted from the €405 price for the iPhone 18 Pro.
Anyone opting for the Duo will initially have to go through Apple or an authorized service partner. Apple has already published the repair costs for the iPhone Duo at Apple.
Would you replace the battery in your iPhone 18 Pro yourself, or is the risk too high for such an expensive device? Tell us in the comments how you feel about it.
