After installing macOS Monterey 12.2, some Mac users experienced excessive battery drain in sleep mode, apparently due to Bluetooth accessories waking the devices frequently. This no longer seems to be the case in the current macOS Monterey 12.3 beta.

Apple released macOS Monterey 12.2 a few days ago. Some Mac users who installed the software update are now suffering from excessive battery drain in sleep mode, which appears to be caused by Bluetooth accessories frequently waking the devices. Many affected users found that their Mac's battery life dropped from 100% to 0% overnight in sleep mode.

macOS Monterey 12.3 fixes Bluetooth problem

Some users tried to find the cause in the Terminal and found that Bluetooth accessories often cause a “DarkWake from Deep Idle”, which causes the Mac to repeatedly wake from sleep and drain the battery. The second Beta macOS 12.3 now seems to fix the problem, as some users report on Twitter, including also Mr. Macintosh. macOS 12.3 is expected to be released in March or April and will provide a solution for all affected users. In the meantime, users can disable Bluetooth on their Macbook or turn off Bluetooth accessories overnight to prevent battery drain. (Photo by isn5000 / Bigstockphoto)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
