Folder sharing in iCloud Drive is a feature that many users have been wanting for a long time. It was supposed to appear in macOS Catalina and iOS 13 - but Apple seems to need more time.
On Apple's website, under the title "New features available with macOS Catalina," various new features are listed – including iCloud Drive folder sharing, which is mentioned there with a note. Until yesterday evening, the asterisk read "Coming this fall." Apple has now changed the footnote overnight to "Coming in spring." Accordingly, the long-awaited feature will not be released until spring 2020 at the earliest – a reason was not given, of course, as there has been no further communication about the delay. The corresponding iOS 13 page has not yet been updated – but it can be assumed that the feature will also be available on the iPhone and iPad. How iCloud Drive folder sharing works
The feature allows parents, for example, to control who their child can communicate with and when. According to the footnote, this feature is also not expected to appear until spring 2020 at the earliest. The new folder sharing would have enabled users to share entire folders with friends or colleagues - they could then access the entire contents of the shared folder, similar to Google Drive and Dropbox.
