Shipping of the first Mac Pro models has officially started - of course, it was only a matter of time before Apple's new beast landed at iFixit. Now the time has come and yes, they have actually tested the cheese grater function.
When Apple unveiled the new Mac Pro at this year's WWDC 2019, the new supercomputer was quickly labeled a glorified cheese grater—due to its distinctive cladding. Naturally, iFixit had to test the new "feature" for itself. In a "First Impression" video, the new Mac Pro was presented and analyzed in detail. This is not a full teardown, however—that is scheduled for next week.
Expanding RAM made easy
Apple's modular computer appears very tidy and well laid out on the inside. Even the area for the RAM has been precisely marked - the slot covers show which slot has already been assigned to RAM. This makes it particularly easy to expand the RAM later. Despite all the technology, cables are not visible - but how does the cheese grater function work? Well, it works - although a lot of the cheese gets stuck in the holes. But for real connoisseurs, this shouldn't be a problem - see for yourself.
The Mac Pro is available from 6,499 euros and comes with a 3.5 GHz 8-core Intel Xeon processor and 32 GB RAM. The new super computer comes with a Radeon Pro 580X graphics card with 8 GB graphics memory and a 256 GB SSD hard drive as standard.
