A number of owners of the new M1 MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini are facing Bluetooth connectivity issues. This is particularly annoying for the standalone Mac mini.

Youtuber Patrick Tomasso found that Bluetooth issues with M1 Mac devices range from sporadic disconnections with peripherals to complete failures. In a Twitter post, Tomasso explained the connectivity issues with his M1 Mac mini. He referred to various forum posts, according to which the number of complaints from various users is increasing. He has now also posted a video on YouTube. In the Twitter post is called it:

I'm going crazy trying to figure out the Bluetooth issues with this device. I thought maybe some of us had a problem but now complaints are popping up all over forums/Reddit.

On Reddit, a handful of M1 Mac owners complain that both first- and third-party peripherals, including mice, keyboards, and headphones, suffer from intermittent connectivity.

macOS: Bluetooth problems are not new for Apple

The list of affected devices also includes the Apple AirPods. The problem appears to be in Apple's hardware or macOS Big Sur, as users were able to successfully connect Logitech accessories using the Unifying Receiver Bluetooth dongle. An editor contacted Apple to replace his Mac mini. The problem - the replacement device was also affected. Unfortunately, it must be mentioned that Bluetooth problems are not new to Apple. In 2014, for example, users complained about sluggish performance of the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, Magic Keyboard and third-party wireless accessories after updating to the then-current OS X Yosemite. Whether this is actually a software or hardware problem is currently unclear. A statement from Apple is pending.
