Yesterday, an official LG support account on Twitter announced the update for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support on LG Smart TVs for next week – today official details were given.

The South Korean electronics giant LG today officially confirmed the update for support of AirPlay 2 and Homekit in a press release. This will be rolled out in stages from Thursday and will be available for all LG OLED, NanoCell and Ultra HD TVs with ThinQ AI function from 2019. However, Apple's new TV app will not be offered. With this update, LG will be the first global TV manufacturer to support Apple's HomeKit. With AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, compatible TVs can be integrated directly into the Home app and connected to devices such as the HomePod.

Additionally, basic TV functions such as power, volume and more can be controlled via the Home app or Siri commands on iPhone and iPad. LG was one of the first TV manufacturers to announce support for AirPlay 2.

„LG remains at the forefront of technological innovation in television as we continually strive to offer the best home theater experience," said Brian Kwon - President of LG Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment. "With Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, we demonstrate our commitment to providing consumers with benefits that go beyond premium picture quality." Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
