The rumor that Apple is developing new high-end over-ear headphones was first documented in 2018. Now there is concrete evidence for the first time - thanks to iOS 14.

The US blog 9to5mac has received an exclusive look at an early version of iOS 14. It already contained hints of new health functions for the Apple Watch. Now there are hints of a brand new product - over-ear headphones. These will not be part of the Beats range but will receive the Apple logo. While the range of functions and design were previously completely unknown, there are finally some clues. According to the iOS 14 code, the new over-ear headphones will have the same functions as the AirPods. So they will have more features than previous Beats models, including automatically pausing the music as soon as the headset is removed. It remains unclear whether the new luxury headphones will have a Lightning port or USB-C port. A completely new charging method cannot be ruled out either.

Two icons reveal the shape

The iOS 14 code also contains two icons that reveal the design or shape and color of the new over-ear headphones. Accordingly, the new product could appear in white and black. The icons are most likely the symbols that will later be displayed on the iPhone when it comes to the battery and charging status as well as the connection. Whether the light and dark symbols actually stand for black and white models cannot currently be confirmed. They could also be related to the system-wide appearance in iOS 14.

Production and availability

The new over-ear headphones were originally supposed to be presented in 2018. But design problems are said to have delayed the whole thing. A few weeks ago, the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo spoke out again and promised a presentation this year. The latest discovery in the iOS 14 code not only confirms the development but also his latest forecast. However, there is no indication of a specific launch date. Since the model was discovered in iOS 14, the market launch is likely to take place in the fall. (Photo by Dean Drobot / Bigstockphoto)
