Apple doesn't list the battery capacity of its iPhones in the technical specifications. For the iPhone Duo, however, the EU energy label, which Apple published before the sales launch, now reveals it – and the data sheet behind it provides even more information: from battery life per charge to the number of drops it can withstand when open.
Since June 2025, smartphones in the EU have required an energy label and product data sheet. Apple has now published this data sheet for the iPhone Duo model A3720. It states a battery capacity of 4,883 mAh.
The figure isn't new. In July, a leak from China mentioned two cells with capacities of 2,962 and 1,921 mAh, totaling exactly 4,883 mAh. The datasheet confirms this value. All other technical specifications can be found on the iPhone Duo fact page.
Key Facts at a Glance
- According to the EU data sheet, the iPhone Duo has a battery with 4,883 mAh – exactly the sum of the two cells from a leak in July.
- Because the iPhone Duo is only shipped with eSIM, the value applies to all countries.
- The data sheet states a runtime of 51 hours and 30 minutes per charging cycle and a minimum of 1,000 charging cycles.
- The iPhone Duo scores in repairability class C and in drop test class B.
What's in the datasheet
The product data sheet follows a fixed EU format. In addition to capacity, it also includes measurements for operating time, durability, and repairability.
| Info | iPhone Duo (A3720) |
|---|---|
| Energy efficiency class | A |
| Battery capacity | 4,883 mAh |
| Runtime per charging cycle | 51 hours 30 minutes |
| Charging cycles | at least 1,000 |
| Crashes without damage | at least 140, plus 35 when fully unfolded. |
| Class drop resistance | B |
| Scratch resistance | Mohs hardness 5 |
| Protection class | IP68, up to 6 meters water depth |
| Repairability | Class C, index 2.65 out of 5 |
| Software updates | at least 5 years |
The battery life of 51.5 hours is a test result based on a defined EU usage mix, not a figure for typical everyday use. It is primarily suitable for comparison with other smartphones whose data sheets are generated using the same procedure.
Where repairability loses points
The index of 2.65 is composed of five sub-scores. Spare parts and repair information each achieve the full score of 5. Deductions are made for fasteners (2.24) and necessary tools (1.12).
Software updates receive the lowest score of 1 out of 5, even though the data sheet promises at least five years of updates. Apple's prices for iPhone Duo repairs illustrate just how expensive a repair without a warranty plan can be: the inner display alone costs €1,149 in Germany.
A minimum of 1,000 charging cycles and IP68 rating fulfill two of the three conditions under which a smartphone is exempt from the EU's requirement for user battery replacement. The third value, the remaining capacity after 500 cycles, is not listed in the data sheet.
Larger than the 18 Pro, smaller than the Pro Max
The battery size of the iPhone 18 Pro varies depending on the market. According to their energy labels, the EU models have smaller batteries than the eSIM-only models in the US, whose specifications were determined by iFixit's teardown. The iPhone Duo, on the other hand, is only available worldwide with eSIM and therefore has the same battery capacity everywhere.
| Model | Battery EU model | US model battery |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo | 4,883 mAh | 4,883 mAh |
| iPhone 18 Pro | 4,056 mAh | 4,288 mAh |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | 5,391 mAh | 5,567 mAh |
In Germany, the iPhone Duo thus has around 20 percent more capacity than the 18 Pro and around 9 percent less than the 18 Pro Max. In the US, the advantage over the 18 Pro is smaller, at just under 14 percent.
How useful the number is in everyday life
I don't think the battery capacity of the iPhone Duo is very meaningful unless someone has used the device for an extended period. Two displays, one of them 7.6 inches, consume very different amounts of power depending on usage. A mAh value tells you nothing about that.
The more compelling point for buyers in Germany is this: the iPhone Duo comes with the same battery as in the US, while the 18 Pro does not. How long the Duo actually lasts in everyday use will only become clear after its release on October 23rd.
When buying a smartphone, do you look at battery capacity – or is it only important to you whether the device still has power in the evening? Tell us in the comments how long your current iPhone lasts.
