Five days after the unveiling of the first Home View, there's already talk of a second, larger model. Apple is reportedly working on a high-end device whose display is mounted on a robotic arm and automatically rotates to face the person speaking. The project itself isn't new – what is new is its inclusion in the Home View lineup.
On October 13, Apple unveiled the Home View, a smart home hub with a 7-inch display, available in both tabletop and wall-mounted versions. According to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter on Bloomberg on October 18, Apple is already planning a higher-end version, expected to be released in 2027 or 2028.
Gurman is considered one of the best-informed reporters on Apple's product plans, and his information is based on unnamed sources. He has been following the desktop robot for over a year. The timeline and specifications have changed several times during this period.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Apple is reportedly planning a larger HomeView with a display diagonal of around 9 inches; the current model has a 7-inch screen.
- The display is designed to sit on a motorized arm, rotate 360 degrees, and orient itself towards the speaking person via voice recognition.
- The report mentions 2027 or 2028 as the timeframe, but does not specify a price.
- The current HomeView is not sold in the EU, and Switzerland is not on the starting list either.
What is known about the larger model
The device is reportedly codenamed J595 internally and is positioned above the current HomeView. Its core feature is the arm: it's designed to swivel the display a full 360 degrees and automatically turn it towards the person speaking. The report compares this to Center Stage's image orientation, except that here the entire display moves.
In the current version, the display can only be tilted manually. If several people are sitting at the table, someone has to adjust it – that's exactly what the arm is designed to do.
The device doesn't have a name yet. Gurman suggests names like HomeView Max, HomeView Ultra, or HomeView 360, explicitly stating that these are his own guesses.
From table robot to HomeView
This isn't the first time the robotic arm has appeared. In August 2025, Bloomberg reported on an AI-powered desk robot with a display that Apple was planning for 2027 – at that time, it was envisioned with a 7-inch display on a movable arm. In June 2026, it was reported that Apple's AI delays were pushing the robot back to 2028, described as the second stage of the smart home hub's development.
| Status | Period | Display | Role in the report |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 2025 | 2027 | approximately 7 inches | independent table robot |
| June 2026 | 2028 | – | Setup and expansion stage of the smart home hub |
| October 2026 | 2027 or 2028 | approximately 9 inches | HomeView's top-of-the-line model |
The timeframe has fluctuated between 2027 and 2028 for over a year, and the display has grown from around 7 to around 9 inches. The most significant change is its role: the standalone tabletop robot has become a model in the HomeView series.
What this means for Germany
The current Home View won't even be released in this country. Apple justifies this with the lack of availability of Siri AI on iPhones in the EU, as the announcement regarding the Home View launch shows. Switzerland is not affected by this, but is nevertheless not on the list of launch countries.
I don't expect a larger model to be released here any sooner than the current HomeView. A device that turns towards the person speaking is even more dependent on voice control than the current one – and Siri AI doesn't yet speak German. For buyers in Germany, the robotic arm is therefore, for the time being, news from another market.
Would you put a smart home hub in your living room that automatically turns towards you – or do you prefer a display that stays still anyway? Tell us in the comments where you would place such a device.
