One week after the seventh beta, Apple is releasing another update. The release cycle has recently shortened from two weeks to one, a typical sign of the final phase. No new features are expected in this round; it's about final bug fixes before Apple releases the final version.

The Release Candidate is the version that Apple considers complete and which, as a rule, becomes the public version unchanged. With iOS 18, it appeared after the September event, about a week before its distribution to everyone. We expect the same pattern for iOS 27: Release Candidate on the evening of the keynote or immediately afterward, public release a few days later.

The DMA hook remains

For users in Germany and Austria, Beta 8 does not change the central limitation: Siri AI is blocked on iPhones and iPads in the EU due to the Digital Markets Act. Apple's restriction of the assistant here is due to the interoperability requirements of the DMA.

Switzerland is on the other side: it belongs neither to the EU nor the EEA and is not covered by the DMA – Siri AI is available there. Swiss users are therefore already testing the AI functions in beta, while they are left out for the time being in the EU.

Installing it now is hardly worth it

With the final version so close, there's little reason to switch your iPhone to a beta version. The lead time is only a few weeks, and beta builds still contain bugs and have higher battery consumption. The fact that the cycle is running without extension suggests a planned launch – Apple would have inserted a ninth iteration if serious problems had arisen. However, this also confirms what will be missing at release for German-speaking regions: The feature set is finalized, and the DMA lock for Siri AI is part of that. iOS 27 will arrive here as a complete update, minus the feature that Apple itself has highlighted.
