There seems to be a bug in iOS 13.5.1 that is causing massive battery problems. Reports are now being documented that affect Apple Music.
There are a number of users complaining about battery problems. The last software update seems to have a bug that makes the devices overheat and drains the battery quickly. Now things are getting more concrete. Along with some other apps, Apple Music also seems to be causing a lot of background activity. writes MacRumors:
Hundreds of users, many of them running iOS 13.5.1 on new and old devices, are experiencing rapid battery drain when the Music app is not in use. In some cases, the background activity occurs for several hours every day, even when the app is not used for weeks or even not used at all.
There are some users who report that Apple Music is responsible for over 50 percent of battery consumption. One user writes:
"There was little to no activity until Friday - different over the weekend. I turned off background refresh for all apps but Apple Music still drains battery when not in use; 53% of battery usage in the last 24 hours without using the app."
Others explain that they use the app much less frequently and also have high levels of background activity.
Does iOS 13 have a problem with background activities?
There are quite contradictory statements regarding a solution. This includes not only restarting the device but also deleting and reinstalling Apple Music. One user wrote to us on Twitter that she was able to solve the problem. Others had to completely reset the iPhone to get the background activity under control. Accordingly, there does not seem to be a uniform solution. But now another question arises. Does iOS 13 have a problem with background activities? Reports of battery problems were documented long before iOS 13.5.1. But it was only with the current version that the reports increased dramatically. If you want to check your background activities yourself, you can view the whole thing in the iOS settings in the "Battery" area. iOS 13.6 is currently being tested.
