Last year, Apple launched a program for independent repair shops that so far only covers iPhone devices. From now on, however, Mac models will also be included.
Apple launched the so-called “Independent Repair Provider Program” in the USA last year and recently expanded it to Europe expandedIt offers independent workshops access to original parts, tools, instructions and much more. These can essentially offer a service outside of the warranty period for iPhones - such as display and battery replacement. Now, in addition to iPhone devices, older Mac models are also set to benefit - the reported Reuters.
“Independent Repair Provider Program”: Available in over 30 countries
"When a device needs repair, we want people to have access to a safe and reliable solution—this latest expansion joins the thousands of repair locations we've added over the past year," said Jeff Williams, Apple's Chief Operating Officer, in a statement. "We look forward to bringing this convenient and trusted repair experience to our Mac users."
In the future, independent workshops will also have access to original parts for Macs and will be allowed to repair them outside of the warranty period. Free training is of course also possible. The announcement should particularly please users who do not have an Apple Store or authorized service partner nearby.
