The French government has commissioned the development of an application that will enable contact tracing via Bluetooth - Corona tracing. However, the current Bluetooth configuration, for the sake of security, limits the functionality of this app. Now the French government has asked Apple to remove this technical restriction in iOS. The obstacle in question is as follows. Currently, Bluetooth cannot be used in the background. This means that in order to ensure connectivity, the third-party application in question must be actively running. Such a Corona tracing app therefore requires a constant connection to Bluetooth, which iOS prevents for privacy reasons.

France's Digital Minister Cedric O told Bloomberg that the country wants to release a contact tracing app by May 11 and the restriction is preventing that from happening. interview:

French ministers have already discussed their concerns with Apple, but so far there has been no progress on the matter. Bloomberg then contacted Apple and asked the company for a statement. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment, citing Apple's press releasethat Apple and Google would work together on a solution to enable corona tracing.
