The redesigned Siri Remote, which is sold with the updated Apple TV 4K and is also available separately, does not have a built-in U1 chip and does not appear to be compatible with the Find My app.
There is no U1 ultra-wideband chip listed in the Siri Remote's specifications. There is also no mention of it in relation to the Find My app. Anyone who thinks this is an oversight will be disappointed. The Verge Apple has since confirmed that the new remote control will not have a U1 chip. Before the launch of the new Apple TV, there were numerous rumors that the Siri Remote would have a Find My-like function to locate it if it was lost in the house. But this feature does not seem to have been implemented. If Find My was available in some form for the remote control, Apple would undoubtedly have mentioned it as a feature. But that is not the case. The reasons for this are still unknown. Perhaps Apple is hoping that users will equip the new remote with an AirTag?
New Apple TV uses U1 chip
Who knows - maybe at some point we will read a report from a leaker that sheds some light on the matter. Speaking of the U1 chip. Interestingly, the new iPad Pro models also seem to be able to do without the chip. At the same time, however, the new Apple TV 4K was equipped with the feature. Accordingly, the following Apple products are among the U1-capable devices:
- iPhone 11 series
- iPhone 12 series
- the new Apple TV 4K
- HomePod mini
