Apple Maps has received some interesting features in iOS 14.5, including the ability to report accidents and hazards. Now the feature is finally available in Germany.
As various media outlets have reported, users in Germany will now be able to report accidents and danger zones via a new menu in the app. This means that as soon as a user enters an address and selects a corresponding route, Siri will report accidents and more after starting. With a swipe across the Maps interface, in the map details area, there will be a new button called "Report". Here, users can report accidents, speed checks or other dangers - similar to other map apps such as Waze. Tapping the location automatically marks the location - confirmation is not required. However, users can also provide a report using voice commands. For example, "Hey Siri, there's an accident" would be possible. In Australia, Brazil, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the USA and some other countries, it is already possible to report accidents via Apple Maps.
Apple Maps: No speed camera warnings available in Germany
There is one exception, however. The option for speed camera warnings is not available. If you want to know why the feature is not included in this country, here is my Explanation from March 2021:
Anyone who is wondering whether the feature will appear here at some point will not like the answer. Based on a change to the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) last year, speed camera applications are expressly prohibited in Germany. This also includes any devices that support functions such as Apple's speed camera warnings in Apple Maps. It is therefore not to be expected that we will get the feature here at some point.
Since the Apple Maps extension is currently being rolled out, it may of course be the case that not everyone can access it immediately – so be patient.
