Apple expands education and robotics in India's supply chain

Apple is significantly expanding its education and training initiatives in India. With a new training center in Bengaluru, additional courses offered directly at supplier facilities, and the expansion of existing programs, Apple is focusing more on digital skills, Swift programming, robotics, and automation. The goal is to provide long-term qualifications and career development opportunities for employees within the supply chain.

Apple's approach follows a clear principle: Technological innovation should not only be visible in products, but also in the people involved in their production. In India, an increasingly important location for Apple's global supply chain, training, inclusion, and professional development are therefore being systematically expanded.

New Apple Education Hub in Bengaluru

Apple has announced the opening of a new Apple Education Hub in Bengaluru. This is Apple's first education hub of its kind in India. The hub will serve as a central training and coordination point for employees of Apple's suppliers in the country.

The course offerings are scheduled to launch in March. The initial focus will be on digital skills and the Swift programming language. Apple is collaborating with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education on curricula and instructors. This institution is designed to consolidate training programs and establish uniform standards for training across the supply chain.

Expansion of training programs for suppliers across India

In parallel with the new hub, Apple is expanding its existing development and training programs directly at its manufacturing facilities. New or updated courses are being introduced at more than 25 supplier plants nationwide. The new curriculum will first be implemented at Tata Electronics. It includes, among other things:

digital basic skills
Swift programming
robotics
Automation technology
intelligent manufacturing processes

Apple is funding these measures through a $50 million global fund specifically established for the further training of supplier employees. The fund supports education and training projects throughout Apple's global supply chain.

Existing programs as a basis

The new offerings build upon an already extensive program portfolio. In India, employees of Apple suppliers currently have access to more than 75 different programs. These cover not only technical skills, but also:

professional development
Health education
Training to raise awareness of employee rights

Apple is working with international organizations and local partners for this purpose. According to the company, these programs are designed to ensure that employees are informed about labor standards, protective measures, and their rights.

Expansion of the robotics training program

Another focus of the initiative is robotics. Apple has announced plans to expand its robotics training program in India. This program was launched in December 2024.

The approach involves first training factory instructors in specialized robotics labs. These instructors will then adapt the content to the specific production conditions and conduct hands-on training sessions in their own factories. Apple plans to expand the robotics program to additional supplier locations in India later this year.

Vocational training and inclusion of people with disabilities

In addition, Apple is expanding its vocational training program for people with disabilities in India. The program was recently launched in partnership with Salcomp.

The goal is to provide employment and training opportunities for people with disabilities within Apple's supply chain. At the same time, the program aims to improve safety, accessibility, and inclusion in production facilities. Globally, this program has already supported more than 18,000 supplier employees and builds on Apple's partnership with Enable India.

With its new education hub in Bengaluru, expanded training programs at suppliers, and targeted robotics and inclusion initiatives, Apple is strengthening its long-term commitment to India. The focus is clearly on skills development, technological advancement, and social responsibility within the supply chain.
