Last year, Apple announced new AI features under the name "Apple Intelligence." Many of them are now available. However, one key feature, a more personalized version of Siri, is still pending. Now, CEO Tim Cook has publicly commented on this delay for the first time in the latest quarterly results.
During a conference call with analysts, Tim Cook confirmed that Apple is continuing to work on the announced Siri features, but they aren't ready for release yet. Cook said the company is making progress but needs more time to ensure quality. No specific timeline was given. Apple only stated that the features will be released "next year." This is the first public statement on the topic since March.
The current status of Apple Intelligence
Since the launch of iOS 18, Apple has released a number of Apple Intelligence features, including:
- writing tools
- Genmoji
- Image Playground
- Image Wall
- Clean-Up
- Visual Intelligence
- Integration with ChatGPT
Users can create movies from their memories with simple inputs. Other features include AI-powered photo search, smart reply suggestions, and priority summaries in Mail, Messages, and other apps. Apple has also expanded these features to additional languages and regions.
The missing Siri functions
Apple also announced more personalized Siri features as part of Apple Intelligence. These include:
- Personal context
- In-app actions
- On-screen awareness
These features aren't available yet. Tim Cook says Apple is continuing to work on them and wants to ensure they meet the company's quality standards.
