Apple users can't wait to see what iOS 19 has in store for them. Even though the update won't be officially unveiled until WWDC in June 2025, there are already plenty of rumors and leaks circulating. Below we've summarized everything that's known so far. From new features to compatible devices, here's what you need to know about the next big software update.

Apple has repeatedly reinvented itself with its iOS updates and iOS 19 seems to be no exception. This time, the focus is mainly on improvements in the area of artificial intelligence and voice assistants. At the same time, it is becoming clear that Apple is restructuring its software development in phases, which is delaying some planned features. Nevertheless, there are many exciting details that give us an insight into the future of the operating system.

A next-generation Siri

One of the main themes of iOS 19 is the further development of Siri. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is working on a "more conversational Siri" supported by advanced language models. These models should enable Siri to handle much more complex requests, similar to OpenAI's AI chatbot ChatGPT. Apple plans to make this revised version of Siri available as part of an iOS 19.4 update in spring 2026. This means that until then you will have to make do with minor improvements that will be integrated into updates such as iOS 18.4. Apple has already taken the first steps in this direction: rudimentary ChatGPT integration has been available since iOS 18.2 and future updates could offer similar integration with Google's Gemini.

Delayed functions

Some of the new features originally planned for iOS 19 will be released later. According to Gurman, this is because Apple is continuing to work on the development of iOS 18. In particular, the introduction of the so-called Apple Intelligence functions in different phases between iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.4 is tying up developers' resources. Although Gurman did not provide any precise details about the postponed features, he suggests that they are planned for the iOS 19.4 update in spring 2026. Apple is obviously relying on a gradual release to ensure stability and quality.

Wide device compatibility

Good news for many users: iOS 19 will be compatible with all iPhones that also support iOS 18. These include:

  • iPhone 16 series: iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 series: iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
  • Older models: iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (from 2nd generation)

What's particularly impressive is that even older models like the iPhone XR and XS, which were released in 2018, are still supported. However, it's likely that some of the new features, like the advanced Siri, will only be available on newer devices.

The schedule

Apple remains true to its usual release rhythm. The first beta versions of iOS 19 and Co. will be presented at WWDC 2025 in June, so that developers and testers have early access to the new features. The final version of the update will be rolled out in September 2025 together with the new iPhone generation.

iOS 19: A promising look into the future

iOS 19 is sure to be one of the most exciting updates in years. Apple is focusing primarily on artificial intelligence and the further development of its voice assistant Siri, which should make using the iPhone even more intuitive. Despite some feature delays and the phased approach, the update remains promising. If you own a compatible iPhone, you can look forward to many new possibilities, even if the most exciting features may not be available until 2026. Looking for accessories from top brands?
