The list of obsolete Apple products is updated from time to time. Now it should be clear which MacBook will be the next to reach vintage status.

The US blog MacRumors has received an internal memo stating that Apple plans to discontinue the first MacBook Pro with Retina display soon. To be precise, the MacBook Pro 15-inch Retina (mid-2012) will land on the vintage list on June 30th.

What does this mean for users?

This means that users can no longer get repairs from Apple or authorized service providers. In the event of a problem, they have to resort to independent service providers. Apart from a few exceptions, Apple's rule of thumb is to produce spare parts for devices for five years - but this period only starts when production of the respective device is discontinued. Only then is the customer forced to look for spare parts elsewhere. So if you still need a new battery or other repairs and want to have them carried out by Apple or a certified service partner, you should hurry. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphot)
