The new Siri design for iOS 27 was apparently already visible in the WWDC26 invitation. The characteristic glow effect from the keynote artwork is said to appear exactly as it did in the revamped voice assistant – integrated into the Dynamic Island.
Apple's WWDC invitations traditionally contain hidden hints about upcoming features. After the failed first attempt under Apple Intelligence, this is the second major Siri redesign attempt within a short period – and this one is finally supposed to deliver on Apple's promises.
Siri launches from the Dynamic Island in its new design. The pill-shaped indicator at the top of the screen expands into an elongated element with the prompt "Search or Ask" and a glowing cursor when Siri is activated. Second Siri overhaul in a short time
The current Siri variant with the colored light ring around the display was only introduced with iOS 18 as part of Apple Intelligence. However, because the promised features of this version were never ready on time, Apple has apparently started from scratch.
According to Gurman, the new Siri design is particularly striking in Dark Mode – which is also why the WWDC artwork was presented against a black background. The glow effect of Dynamic Island will also be featured in the new, separate Siri app's search field, ensuring visual consistency.
More than just a new look
The redesign isn't just a cosmetic change. Siri's functionality is set to fundamentally change. Users will soon be able to engage in ongoing dialogues with Siri, ask multiple questions in a single sentence, and utilize long-awaited features like personalized context processing and screen awareness. This brings Siri closer to modern AI chatbots like ChatGPT or Claude.
Technically, the new Siri is based on new Foundation Models, which, according to Apple, are partly based on Google's Gemini technology. For the first time, there will be a separate Siri app where users can find their previous conversations. The previously separate search interfaces of Siri and Spotlight will also be unified.
Why it has to work this time
Apple has a lot at stake. The failed first Siri overhaul led to massive internal restructuring and reinforced the public perception that Apple is lagging behind in AI. The fact that Apple has now even sent the Siri team to a special AI coding bootcamp demonstrates the immense pressure behind the development.
