According to a new report, Apple is planning four color options for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The new signature color is called "Dark Cherry" and is significantly darker than the Cosmic Orange of the iPhone 17 Pro. The colors of the iPhone Ultra have also been revealed.
Rumors have been swirling for weeks about a red Color option with the iPhone 18 Pro. Now it's delivering. Macworld Citing a source from Apple's supply chain, specific details were revealed – including Pantone codes. The new color is not a bright red, but a deep, wine-red tone called "Dark Cherry." Three additional color options were also mentioned, along with initial hints about the iPhone Ultra's color palette.
The source mentions four colors Apple is working on for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. However, all are still in the development phase – mass production hasn't started yet, and Apple has canceled colors shortly before launch in the past. For example, black and steel gray were discussed for the iPhone 17 Pro, but ultimately didn't appear.
iPhone 18 Pro: The four color options
The first one is Dark Cherry (Pantone 6076), the new signature color. According to the source, the shade is closer to a wine red than a vibrant red – significantly more subdued than the striking Cosmic Orange of the iPhone 17 Pro. This aligns with earlier reports that referred to a “crimson” tone, and with Mark Gurman’s assessment that Apple’s tested purple and brown variants were ultimately just nuances of the same red hue.
The second option is Light Blue (Pantone 2121), which is similar to the current Mist Blue of the iPhone 17. This is complemented by Dark Gray (Pantone 426C) and Silver (Pantone 427C), which corresponds to the current Silver.
The source warns that Apple does not always offer four Pro colors – one of the options could be dropped before launch.
iPhone Ultra colors
The color palette for Apple's first foldable iPhone is also becoming more concrete. The iPhone Ultra is expected to be available in fewer colors than the Pro models – without any striking or vibrant tones. The source mentions a classic silver-white as well as an indigo similar to the Deep Blue of the iPhone 17 Pro.
The limited color selection for the iPhone Ultra makes sense: As a new, high-priced product with an expected price exceeding $2,000, Apple will likely focus on subtle, timeless colors before introducing bolder options in later generations.
Design details confirmed
The Macworld source also confirms earlier leaks regarding the iPhone Ultra's design: two rear cameras, a selfie camera on the outer display, and a largely bezel-less inner display. Combined with ongoing production preparations, this strongly suggests that Apple will indeed unveil both the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and the iPhone Ultra in September.
