A new leak from the iPhone 17 Pro production line is causing quite a stir. For the first time, there are indications of an all-aluminum chassis for a Pro model. The design differs significantly from its predecessors, bringing with it both technical and visual changes.

The iPhone 17 Pro could receive one of the biggest material updates in years. Instead of relying on the familiar glass sandwich design and titanium frame, as was the case with the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple appears to be taking a different approach this time. The leak comes from the Korean Naver blog, where a photo was published under the account name yeux1122. It allegedly shows the new casing off the production line.

Solid aluminum instead of glass and titanium

The leaked image suggests a milled, all-aluminum casing. The camera cutout is integrated directly into the casing, unlike previous Pro models, which had a separate camera module on a glass back. Instead of a continuous glass back, there is apparently only a small glass area around the Apple logo, which is used for wireless charging.

New full-width camera module

The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature a rectangular camera module that spans the entire width of the device. It will likely be the same color as the body, eliminating the previous two-tone look. This new design could provide more space for larger camera sensors.

Aluminum brings weight advantage and better cooling

Aluminum is around 40 percent lighter than titanium for the same volume. This could make the iPhone 17 Pro noticeably lighter. At the same time, aluminum dissipates heat significantly better, which would be particularly beneficial for the new A19 Pro chip and the battery. Apple is also said to be using a new internal cooling design that includes a vapor chamber to further reduce heat generation.

More color options possible

Titanium has previously been considered particularly high-quality, but it has limitations in color design. Aluminum allows more flexibility, which is why new colors like dark blue and orange are expected alongside black, white, and gray.

First aluminum on a high-end iPhone in years

Since Apple divided its iPhone models into Pro and non-Pro versions, aluminum was used exclusively in the cheaper versions like the iPhone SE or the iPhone 16. The return of the material to a Pro model marks a significant shift in strategy.

Possible interview date

The iPhone 17 series is expected to be unveiled next month, with September 9 currently considered a likely date. Apple typically announces its events two weeks in advance, so August 26 is a possible date for the invitation.

Big changes for the iPhone 17 Pro in sight

The iPhone 17 Pro could be lighter, cooler, and more visually consistent. The all-aluminum body, the new full-width camera module, and the possible new color variants represent clear differences from its predecessor. If the leaks are correct, this signals a clear reorientation for Apple in the high-end segment. Official confirmation shouldn't be long in coming. (Image: zellzoi / X)
