Apple Vision Pro 2: Leak confirms powerful M5 chip

Apple is working on a new version of the Vision Pro, which will reportedly feature an M5 chip. An accidentally leaked code, discovered by MacRumors editor Aaron Perris, provides the clearest hint yet. This reinforces rumors that the mixed reality headset will soon receive a performance upgrade.

Speculation about the second generation of the Vision Pro has been circulating for months. It was particularly unclear which chip would be used in the new model. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo assumed an M5 chip, while Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman expected the M4 chip, which is currently installed in the latest MacBook Air and iPad Pro models. The discovered code now speaks for itself and indicates that Apple will integrate the more powerful M5 chip.

M5 chip instead of M4 – what’s changing

The switch from the M2 to the M5 chip could mean a significant performance boost. A more powerful processor enables more demanding mixed-reality applications, improved energy efficiency, and more stable performance over longer periods of use. The new chip should also offer advantages in terms of heat generation, which is especially important for longer sessions. Aside from the processor, no major hardware or design changes are expected. The Vision Pro's casing is expected to remain unchanged. One exception could be a new head strap, which improves comfort and makes extended work or gaming more pleasant.

The redesigned Vision Pro with the M5 chip could be released as early as the end of the year. Until then, there's time to optimize the software for the new chip and give developers the opportunity to create new applications that take advantage of the additional performance.
