Four days before the "Welcome Home" event, a possible name for Apple's first home smart home device has surfaced. A previously unknown company has trademarked "HomeView" in the US, and the product list reads like a description of the anticipated smart home hub. However, the connection to Apple has not been confirmed.
In reports over the past few months, Apple's smart home hub mostly went by the name HomePad; Apple has not yet officially announced a name. A trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office now brings "HomeView" into play. It was filed by a company called Home Services LLC, and the entry in the TMview trademark database is publicly accessible. Until now, the device had mainly been circulating under the name Apple HomePad, likewise without confirmation.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Home Services LLC filed the word mark „HomeView“ in the USA on March 21, 2025, with priority from Liechtenstein from September 2024.
- The registered goods expressly include smart home hubs, touchscreens, cameras and voice control.
- Almost simultaneously, a similarly unknown company registered the trademark "homeOS".
- There is no evidence that Apple is behind Home Services LLC.
What's in the registration
The application is for Class 9, which covers computers, software, and electronic devices. The list of goods is remarkably specific: it includes, among other things, smart home hubs consisting of hardware and software for controlling home automation, interactive touchscreens, cameras, voice control devices, and hardware for displaying photos, videos, and films.
This aligns with what has been reported about Apple's device: a display of around six inches for Apple Home, a front camera that recognizes who is standing in front of it, Siri as the central control, and a photo view as a picture frame.
A name from the year 2024
The trademark's origin predates the US application. Home Services LLC cites a priority ruling from Liechtenstein dated September 24, 2024, indicating an earlier application there. The US authorities published the trademark for opposition in April 2026 and granted permission in early June. Registration will only be finalized once the owner demonstrates actual use – a step that would be conducive to an imminent market launch.
The company is based in Wilmington, Delaware, and otherwise maintains a low public profile. A similar pattern occurred in April 2025: At that time, an equally unknown company called Home Operations Suite LLC registered the trademark homeOS, also for computer and software products.
How reliable is the tip?
There is no direct proof in the registration that Home Services LLC belongs to Apple. The attribution is based on two pieces of evidence: the matching product list and the time lapse of only a few weeks between the registration and the homeOS application.
I consider HomeView a plausible product name, but not a certainty. The name could just as easily refer to a function or a view within the software rather than the device itself – the product list doesn't preclude this, as it includes software as well as hardware.
The decision will be made on Tuesday
The answer is coming soon: According to Bloomberg, Apple will unveil a new HomePod mini and a new Apple TV 4K, along with its smart home hub, on October 13th at 3 PM German time. Two weeks later, new Macs and an iPad mini are expected to follow, both part of the Apple innovations anticipated for October 2026.
In this country, the name is likely to be less important than the language: Siri AI, for which the central unit is designed, does not yet speak German.
