According to Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong Intl Tech Research, Apple plans to equip the Apple Watch Ultra with Micro-LED technology and an even larger display in the future. Apart from the Apple Watch Ultra, none of the new Apple Watch models are particularly appealing. For example, the only new features of the Apple Watch Series 8 compared to the Series 7 were the body temperature sensor and the accident detection function.
Apple Watch Ultra to receive major upgrades in 2024
And unfortunately, it looks like the 2023 Apple Watch models will also be somewhat boring for those who've been waiting for a major upgrade. In a note to investors, Jeff Pu says he expects Apple Watch sales to decline in 2023 due to "a lack of significant upgrades." However, those willing to wait longer to buy a new Apple Watch could benefit from some good new technology. The analyst claims that the 2024 Apple Watch Ultra will likely use a Micro LED panel instead of OLED. For those unfamiliar with it, Micro LED is an alternative to OLED that can achieve even higher brightness and color accuracy.
Ultra model to be equipped with Micro LED display in 2024
Rumor has it that Apple to equip some of its products with Micro LED displays in the future. However, the technology is still significantly more expensive than OLED and Mini LED. This makes the Apple Watch an ideal product to be the first to be equipped with such a display. After all, the Apple Watch was also Apple's first device with an OLED display. In addition to the Micro LED display, the Apple Watch Ultra 2024 is expected to have a larger 2.1-inch display, instead of 1.93 inches on the current model.
