Apple develops new 27-inch Mini-LED Studio Display

Apple is developing a new 27-inch display with mini-LED technology, which is expected to be launched in late 2025 or early 2026. This would see Apple expand its current Studio Display, which has been available since 2022, with a more powerful version. Compared to conventional LED displays, mini-LEDs offer better brightness, higher contrast and more accurate color reproduction - a decisive advantage for professional users. The references to the new display come from renowned analysts such as Ross Young, Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman, who have often made accurate predictions about Apple products in the past. While Young initially stated that Apple had stopped developing a new 27-inch display, several sources are now reporting that the project has been resumed.

Apple displays enjoy an excellent reputation in the industry, especially in areas such as video editing, photography and graphic design. The current Apple Studio Display with its 5K LED panel already offers high image quality, but falls short of modern mini-LED technologies in some areas. By using mini-LEDs, Apple could bring its new display into the same league as the highly acclaimed MacBook Pro models, which already benefit from this technology.

Mini-LED technology as a central upgrade

Apple is already using mini-LEDs in its MacBook Pro models and could now integrate this technology into its standalone displays. Compared to conventional LED displays, mini-LEDs offer some key advantages:

However, this could also lead to delays in production if there are bottlenecks in the supply chain.

ProMotion technology and 120 Hz refresh rate possible?

In 2023, there were reports that Apple was working on a Studio Display Pro with ProMotion technology. ProMotion means that the display offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This would enable a much smoother display, especially with moving content. However, Young claimed that Apple has put this project on hold for the time being. Now, new information suggests that the upcoming 27-inch display may come with 120 Hz support after all. If Apple decides to integrate ProMotion, it would be an important step to differentiate itself from other monitors in this size class.

What is known about the price and market launch?

There is no official information about the price or release date yet. Ross Young expects a market launch at the end of 2025, while Mark Gurman assumes that the launch could be delayed until 2026. There is also only speculation about the price. The current Studio Display already costs 1,749 euros, although it is still a conventional LED display. A mini-LED version with additional functions such as ProMotion and HDR could be in a higher price range - a realistic price would be between 2,000 and 2,500 euros.
