At the “Unleashed” event, Apple introduced two new Apple Silicon chips, which the company calls M1 Pro and M1 Max.

Apple's M1 Pro chip supports up to 32GB of memory, which it shares with the on-chip GPU. The chip has over 33.7 billion transistors spread across eight high-performance cores and 2 high-efficiency cores. All of this results in 70% faster CPU performance than the M1, according to Apple. Additionally, Cupertino claims that the GPU speed is twice that of the M1 chip. Apple has also integrated ProRes into the chip, more Thunderbolt channels, and support for more external monitors. The M1 Max chip has a memory bandwidth of 400 gigabytes per second. It has 57 billion transistors and is equipped with a 32-core GPU. The M1 Max chip supports up to 64GB of unified memory.

Apple saysthat both chips perform better than current PC chips at every power level. On the GPU side, Apple explains that its chips are up to 7 times faster than integrated PC graphics for the same performance. They can deliver similar performance to discrete graphics cards but use 70% less power - absolutely insane! Compared to the fastest PC Apple could find, for example, the new chip uses 100 watts less power for similar performance. This also means that the M1 Pro and M1 Max are similarly powerful on battery power. Apple has also adapted macOS to take full advantage of the new chips at every level. According to Apple, the improvements offer up to 3x faster ML performance, and even up to 20x faster on certain models. (Image: Apple)

Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
