Now that Apple has officially held its October event, the launch of macOS 12 Monterey and Co. has been announced. Now Apple has confirmed that Universal Control will be released later.
According to Apple, in addition to macOS 12 Monterey, iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1 and Co. will be released on October 25, next Monday. Now the company has confirmed that Universal Control will not be part of the update. As a reminder, Universal Control is a planned feature for iPadOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey. It allows users to place three Apple devices in close proximity and use them with a single keyboard and mouse or trackpad. Once connected, a user can simply drag and drop files between the devices and switch between them as needed. If you place a second device near a compatible Mac, you can connect your devices using the Continuity features in the AirPlay & Handoff section of your Mac's settings.
Universal Control: System can also be controlled manually
A gray bar will appear on the side of the paired devices. By dragging your cursor from one screen to another, you can "pass" your keyboard and mouse control to another device. This can be especially useful for moving documents, files, and images between devices. Apple says that the devices use proximity to determine which device a user wants to connect. Based on the user's behavior, the system will arrange the computer and the other devices accordingly. However, this alignment can also be controlled manually in the "Monitors" control panel. So if you have multiple devices in use, you will certainly be happy about it. For an unknown reason, Universal Control has not yet been included in any beta version of macOS Monterey.
