The rumor mill is once again bubbling in the world of technology, and this time it's all about a potential new addition to the smart home sector: the HomePod with a screen. In the recently released tvOS 17.4 developer beta, hints of a previously unreleased device have emerged that is capturing the imagination of Apple enthusiasts.

Apple has often proven itself to be at the forefront of technological innovation, and the latest developments surrounding HomePod are further proof of the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible. With the combination of advanced hardware and intuitive user experience, Apple has revolutionized the way we interact with technology.

Now, the company seems ready to take another step into the future by adding a visual component to the traditional smart speaker. The revelation came in the recent tvOS 17.4 developer beta (via 9to5mac), when a previously unknown device codenamed "Z314" surfaced. This discovery reignited speculation about a possible HomePod with a screen, which had been the subject of rumors and speculation for quite some time. What makes this reveal particularly exciting is the fact that the device is apparently capable of running tvOS, making it an interesting combination of Apple TV hardware and HomePod functionality.

Code clues confirmed earlier reports

Although the device does not feature a screen so far, evidence suggests that Apple is actively working on developing a HomePod that could offer a visual user interface. The integration of SwiftUI frameworks and debugging tools into the HomePod firmware suggests that the company may already be working on implementing a user interface that could be used by a future HomePod with a screen. Additionally, data in the Z314's code indicates that the device is equipped with a powerful A15 Bionic chip, suggesting that it could be in an advanced stage of development. This speculation is further fueled by reports of a 2023 prototype HomePod with a touchscreen, indicating that Apple is seriously working on implementing this concept.
