In early March, Apple introduced the Studio Display, the first standalone display since the Pro Display XDR. Now iFixit has disassembled the Studio Display in a teardown video to give us a look at the inner workings.
The inside of the Studio Display may be confusing at first, as it's not unlike a computer like the Intel iMac in that it contains an A13 chip, speakers, and fans. Several iFixit staffers were asked to identify an opened iMac and a Studio Display, and many of them got it wrong. The Studio Display opens with an iMac opening tool, making it easy to access the components inside. iFixit took a quick look at the Studio Display in its Mac Studio teardown last week, confirming that the Studio Display's camera is essentially the same as the iPhone 11's camera. There's no internal indication as to why the Studio Display camera has quality issues.

Apple itself has already promised that a software solution is coming. The Studio Display uses the exact same panel as the 5K iMac and features an internal power supply, which iFixit says is an impressive feat of engineering. The internal power supply sets the Studio Display apart from the iMac because it requires massive fans for heat dissipation and the chassis is 50 µm thicker. The speakers are "impressive for a display" and are glued in, making the speaker hardware difficult to remove.
