Apple announced in November that the iPhone 14 emergency calling via satellite would be launched in December in Germany and in other markets. Now it is officially available.

Apple announced the feature at the iPhone 14 event in September and said it would officially roll out to customers in the US and Canada in November. Now the feature has been rolled out to other countries expanded, including Germany. To use the function, users must be using iOS 16.1 or later. Emergency SOS via Satellite will be free for customers for the first two years, after which Apple plans to charge for the service. However, a price has not yet been announced.

Satellite Emergency Calling allows the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models to send a message to emergency services over a satellite connection under "ideal conditions with a direct view of the sky and horizon." Apple says sending the message can take up to 15 seconds in good conditions, and longer in poor conditions. You can test the Satellite Emergency Calling feature in supported regions by going to Settings -> Emergency SOS -> Try Demo. This will help you learn how to point your iPhone at a satellite and operate the SOS notification interface so you know what to do if you get into trouble in the future. (Image: Apple)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
