Apple officially listed the new Mac Pro and the 6K screen in the store yesterday evening. Now a support document warns against third-party polishing cloths.
The new Pro Display XDR is available with standard glass or nano-texture glass. The display can therefore cost 5,499 euros or 6,499 euros. There is also the choice between two stands. The Pro Stand allows you to control the height, tilt and orientation and costs around 1,099 euros, while the normal VESA mount adapter only costs 219 euros. But let's get back to the glass surface. Both the standard glass and the nano-texture glass have been developed for extremely low reflectivity. But how do you actually clean the display? With a normal polishing cloth, right? Not quite! Apple has published a new support document that warns against third-party polishing cloths. Users of a Pro Display XDR with standard glass can actually use standard microfiber cloths, while users of a Pro Display XDR with nano-texture glass can only use Apple's solution.
How to clean the Pro Display XDR
Both display versions already include a polishing cloth provided by Apple. If you have chosen the model with standard glass, you can also clean your monitor with other microfiber cloths and a little water. The company writes:
Do not use any products containing acetone to clean the display. Do not spray the cleaning agent directly onto the screen. Otherwise it could get inside the display and cause damage.
When it comes to the Pro Display XDR, things look different. Here Apple writes:
Only use the dry polishing cloth that came with your display to remove dust or dirt from the screen. Do not add water or use any other liquids to clean the nano-coated glass.
The nano-textured glass version appears to be significantly more sensitive. If the polishing cloth is lost, Apple says it can be reordered. (Order replacement polishing cloth) Regarding cleaning the polishing cloth itself, the company recommends washing it by hand with detergent. After about 24 hours, it can be used without worry.
