Apple announced a brand new tower computer called the Mac Studio on Tuesday evening, aimed at professional users. In addition, a new external monitor called the Apple Studio Display was introduced.

In the Mac sector, two new products were introduced today, starting with the tower computer. The Mac Studio represents a new category between the Mac mini and the Mac Pro. Its design is based on that of the Mac mini, but is taller to support the more powerful hardware and has a better cooling system. As standard, the Mac Studio already comes with the M1 Max chip, which is also found in the high-end models of the MacBook Pro 2021. With a more expensive option, users can equip the Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra chip - a new chip that combines two M1 Max chips working together.

Mac Studio: Designed for professional users

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, commented on the new Mac device:

We're excited to introduce an all-new Mac desktop and display, Mac Studio and Studio Display. Mac Studio ushers in a new era of the desktop, with incredible performance from M1 Max and M1 Ultra, a wide range of connectivity options, and a compact design that puts everything you need within reach. And Studio Display—with its stunning 5K Retina screen and the best combination of camera and audio ever in a desktop display—is in a class of its own.

The device can be purchased with a 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine starting at 2,299 euros. The maximum configuration costs around 9,199 euros. The device can be pre-ordered starting today. According to Apple, deliveries will start on March 18th.

Apple Studio Display: The new external display

Alongside the all-new Mac Studio, Apple also announced a new external display, the Apple Studio Display. The Studio Display measures 27 inches diagonally and has a 5K resolution. You can also get a nano-texture display option to minimize glare. The Studio Display features an A13 chip for deep integration and many features, including powering the speaker system and a Center Stage-ready webcam. The Studio Display features an all-aluminum chassis with thin bezels and an integrated stand that tilts up to 30 degrees. A tilting and height-adjustable stand is also available as an add-on option.

Apple Studio Display: Pricing and Availability

Unlike the Pro Display XDR, the Apple Studio Display has a webcam for video calls. The ultra-wide 12-megapixel webcam supports Center Stage, a feature available for the first time on the Mac. The Studio Display also has an array of three microphones and six speakers that can output a Dolby Atmos soundscape. The Studio Display has three integrated USB-C ports and a Thunderbolt port for connecting to a laptop with data exchange and 96 W charging power. The product can now be pre-ordered from Apple. The price of the screen is between 1,749 euros and 2,459 euros, depending on the version and additional features. (Image: Apple)
