Apple Arcade received a major update today, adding over 30 new titles, including ones from major game developers.

Apple Arcade now has 180 playable titles. New games include NBA 2K21, a brand new version of The Oregon Trail from Gameloft, Fantasian from the creator of Final Fantasy, and many hit classics such as Really Bad Chess, Monument Valley, Reigns, Simon's Cat, Threes!, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, Chess, Checkers and many more. In a press release Apple announced the following:

Apple today announced it is introducing two all-new game categories and adding more than 30 incredible titles to Apple Arcade, its popular game subscription service for gamers of all ages. Apple Arcade offers groundbreaking, unique benefits that gamers love: no ads, no in-app purchases, support for Apple's high privacy standards, and an all-inclusive subscription offering with access for up to six family members. In addition to new exclusive Arcade Originals, including "NBA 2K21 Arcade Edition," "Star Trek: Legends," and "The Oregon Trail," the service is introducing two new game categories: "Timeless Classics" and "App Store Greats."

Apple Arcade: Not all content is available on all platforms

In conjunction with the major update, two new Apple Arcade categories have been added: "Timeless Classics" and "App Store Greats," with Apple emphasizing that everything playable on the service is ad-free and available without in-app purchases. All new games are now available on Apple Arcade in the App Store. The company points out that Arcade Originals can be played on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. Timeless Classics and App Store Greats, on the other hand, are only available on iPhone and iPad. Unfortunately, Apple does not specify which content is actually available in which countries. The announcement simply states:

Some content may not be available in all areas.

Apple Arcade offers a wide selection of games without advertising or in-app purchases. To gain access, all you need is a subscription, which costs around 5 euros a month - family sharing and a free trial month are included. (Image: Apple)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
