A number of new features will be released in iOS 13 and macOS 10.15 Catalina – in general, iPhone and Co. will become even more intelligent.
Apple gave an insight into many new features at WWDC 2019, but did not mention each one in detail. Now the developer Frank A. Krueger has discovered another software function. According to him, the feature is called VNAnimalDetector. To be precise, these are two new APIs called VNAnimalDetectorDog and VNAnimalDetectorCat. When iOS scans images in the Photos app, the system can use facial recognition to identify people, dogs, cats and much more in individual images and thus classify them better - now this exact feature will be available to developers in the future under iOS 13 and macOS Catalina. They can then integrate the function into their own applications.
The feature is part of the Apple Vision Framework, which develops developer tools for image recognition. Machine learning has become increasingly important in recent years and Apple is trying to do its part to keep the software up to date - something we already know from Google and other companies. Developers can access the individual functions via the Apple website and then integrate them into their own apps adapted to iOS 13.
