Apple has now, somewhat surprisingly, updated the firmware version of the new Siri Remote, which is compatible with both the Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.

The new Siri Remote is available separately from Apple's online store and brings precise control to the Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. The redesigned remote addresses the criticisms of the previous generation by adding an all-new touch-enabled clickpad. It also has a circular outer ring for gestures that is reminiscent of the iPod classic's clickwheel. In addition, Apple has moved the Siri button to the right side of the remote to bring it in line with the iPhone side button used to invoke Siri on the phone. Like the previous Siri Remote, the second-generation model is charged via Lightning. Accordingly, the 65 Euro accessory comes with a Lightning-to-USB cable. It also includes an IR emitter that allows it to function as a universal remote for other devices in the user's entertainment area, such as an HD TV or surround sound receiver.

Siri Remote: Apple releases new firmware

Now Cupertino has updated the accessories. The new internal version number is 9M6772, while the previous firmware was known as version 9M6336. Please note: this is not (!) the firmware version that users see in the Apple TV Remote settings. It is not known what new features the update contains. However, it can be assumed that Apple has fixed errors and improved performance. How the update will be carried out is not known. Apple has at least not made a binding statement on this. However, the whole thing will not be rocket science and will probably work in a similar way to the AirPods.

This means that it can be assumed that the Apple TV will initiate the update during standby mode. After all, firmware updates are known to be installed in the background. For this reason, it cannot be assumed that the update will be carried out immediately but will take some time. If you don't have one yet and are interested, you can use the brand new Siri Remote at Amazon for 58.50 euros and thus purchase it a little cheaper. (Photo by Unsplash / Jeremy Zero)

Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
