Instagram is planning a major restructuring to become more relevant in the video sector. The Facebook subsidiary wants to remain competitive with this step and is declaring war on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube.

Instagram will start hosting videos in full-screen mode and wants to catch up with TikTok in particular. explained Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said in a new video that the social platform no longer wants to be seen as the "square photo-sharing app" and will instead focus more on entertainment and video. Instagram is no stranger to video content, having previously offered it through features like IGTV, Reels and Stories. But Mosseri said Instagram will "use video more broadly" in the future, starting with "full-screen, immersive, entertaining, mobile-first videos," which sounds a lot like TikTok, whose popularity Mosseri admits Instagram wants to emulate.

Instagram wants to become more transparent in the future

Instagram will also begin testing recommendations in the next few months that show users what they may not be following in their feed. As a reminder, the platform only this week began rolling out topics that users can see more or less of if they wish. Users can expect a lot of experimentation in this area "in the coming months," Mosseri said. In addition, the company intends to become more transparent in the increasingly competitive social media space. In other words, the Facebook subsidiary wants to communicate more about new features and the "why, how, wherefore?" in the future. (Photo by Unsplash / Solen Feyissa)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
