In addition to the first test reports on the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max The new MagSafe Duo charger was also reviewed today.

The MagSafe Duo charger costs 145.20 euros and is delivered without a power adapter. Although the charger has already been listed in the Apple online shop, a launch date is not known. However, initial test reports have been published, which are quite interesting. writes Matthew Panzarino of TechCrunch, for example, says that the MagSafe Duo charger "works as advertised." It charges both the iPhone 12 and the Apple Watch at the same time. The advantage is that only one cable and one power adapter are needed.

Does it work? Yes, it works exactly as advertised. Your iPhone rests comfortably on the MagSafe side of the charger and aligns itself using the internal magnets. The Apple Watch side flips open and out to allow easy access for closed bands. The entire unit folds over for easy carrying and even folds when you don't need either side. It definitely works.

MagSafe Duo Charger: Build quality and design are not worth 145 euros

So while the functionality has been praised, there is a clear opinion when it comes to build quality and design. Panzarino says the MagSafe Duo charger is worth $70 rather than $129. This is especially true when you consider that Apple's charger does not come with a power adapter, only a Lightning to USB-C cable.

The hinge and casing are coated in soft-touch rubber that's sort of pressed on. While the hinge works well, it's wobbly and crumples immediately. The rubber is thick enough that it doesn't feel like it's going to snap immediately or anything - but it's not exactly confidence-inspiring. This is a cheap hinge solution that you'd expect from a budget-conscious third-party accessory, not Apple.

After the price was announced, there was a barrage of complaints. Many fans are not prepared to pay 145.20 euros for it. They say the whole thing is a nice idea but definitely overpriced. Of course, there were supporters, but the number of them has been limited so far. AirPods Pro on special offer at Amazon – available now. (Image: Apple)
