Apple released a second supplementary update to macOS Catalina 10.15.6 this evening and fixed a few problems. But it's a bit confusing.

Apple has somewhat surprisingly rolled out a second supplementary update for macOS Catalina 10.15.6. The update, which was released this evening, is intended to fix some bugs and improve stability under macOS Catalina. Today's update corrects an issue with iCloud Drive that prevented files from syncing correctly, as well as eliminating a bug that prevented Macs from automatically connecting to WiFi networks.

macOS update confuses users

You can check whether the update is actually available in the system settings under “Software Update”. The new version of macOS Catalina 10.15.6 has the build number 19G2531. In the official developer channel it is listed as a public version. However, there are reports that only beta testers have received the update. At the same time, however, statements have also been documented that normal users can carry out the update. It therefore remains unclear whether Apple has actually just mislabeled the version or whether the new version is just being rolled out slowly. Since macOS 11 Big Sur was released in October expected , macOS 10.15.6 could be the last version of Catalina. The new operating system brings a new design, many Safari changes, new widgets, a control center, improvements to Messages, and much more. Overall, Big Sur brings macOS closer to iOS. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
