Apple's new M4 iPad Pro is finally here, and the first reviews have already arrived. With an impressive OLED display and the powerful M4 chip, Apple has once again raised the bar for tablets. But despite the praise for the hardware, there are also critical voices that criticize the high price and the software. Below you will find out everything you need to know about the new iPad Pro, based on the first reviews.

Apple announced last week the latest generation of iPad Pro with the M4 chip, which is now available for pre-order. While the company has announced that the new iPads will officially ship on Wednesday, May 15, the press has already tested the new iPad. The first reviews particularly praise the new OLED display, but criticize the price and software. Let's take a closer look at the experts' opinions.

OLED display: A highlight of the new iPad Pro

The most outstanding feature of the new M4 iPad Pro is undoubtedly the OLED display. According to The Verge The display offers “incredibly vivid” and “significantly brighter” colors that make every application and video a visual delight. Gizmodo also praises the display and describes it as “sharper, brighter and more colorful”. Engadget agrees with this opinion and also highlights the quality of the panel.

Criticisms: Price and software

Despite the excitement about the display, there are also some criticisms. The price of the new iPad Pro has increased significantly. The 11-inch version starts at €1,199, while the 13-inch version starts at €1,549. Gizmodo and Engadget both criticize the price increase and question whether the upgrade justifies the extra cost. Another common criticism is the software. The Verge notes that the iPad still runs a "locked-down, overly simplified operating system." Jason Snell goes further, describing iPadOS as "essentially dumb" compared to the powerful hardware. Although Apple promises that future software updates will bring improvements, it remains to be seen whether those promises will be kept.

Performance: Abundance of computing power

The performance of the M4 chip is undeniably impressive. The Verge calls the new iPad Pro "the best kind of overkill" because it offers more power than most users are likely to need. Engadget describes the device as "very nice and very expensive," with the performance often perceived as too much for the average user.

Accessories and Compatibility

Another point of criticism concerns the accessories. Engadget points out that the new iPad Pro is not fully compatible with older accessories, which may mean additional costs for those already invested in the Apple ecosystem. Nevertheless, the new accessories are described as ergonomic and well-adjusted.

Impressive hardware with challenges

The new M4 iPad Pro is undoubtedly an impressive device with top-notch hardware. The OLED display and powerful M4 chip set new standards in the tablet market. Still, the high prices and still limited software are important points for potential buyers to consider. If you're willing to pay a premium for the latest technology and trust that future software updates will deliver on promises, the M4 iPad Pro could be just the thing for you. Otherwise, a cheaper iPad model could be a better choice. (Image: Apple)
