As Apple prepares for its launch in 2022, more details about its self-service repair program have been revealed. An internal document reveals how the program's online parts store will work.
The last week announced The "Self-Service Repair" initiative will allow customers for the first time to purchase genuine Apple parts and tools for common iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 repairs such as display, battery and camera replacement. Apple plans to expand the initiative to other repairs, such as M1 Macs, over the course of 2022. Ahead of the broad launch, Apple sent an internal memo to explain the details of the repair program. According to the document, which was obtained by US blog MacRumors present, Apple intends to outsource the service's online parts warehouse to an unnamed third-party company. The outside company will be responsible for fulfilling orders for the more than 200 parts and tools available from Apple and accepting faulty or broken parts returned by customers.

According to Apple's announcement last week, customers will initially order parts and tools through the new "Self-Service Repair" store, which will go online in the coming months. After the repair is complete, customers can return "core" parts or used components for recycling and receive credit. This strategy is already being used by Apple Authorized Repair Facilities. The internal memo also notes that repair guides will be made available through the Apple Support website. Customers are advised to consult the repair manuals and related documentation before ordering parts or performing a self-service repair.
