Both iPhone 13 Pro models are equipped with ProMotion display technology, which enables adaptive refresh rates from 10 Hz up to 120 Hz. This makes scrolling through content, gaming and more much smoother.
Although the maximum refresh rate is 120 Hz, App Store developers have found that most app animations are limited to 60 Hz, resulting in an uneven screen experience for users. According to the blog 9to5Mac ProMotion works at the full 120 Hz refresh rate when scrolling and during full-screen transitions. However, the animations are still limited to 60 Hz. This means that when you scroll through your Facebook timeline or the article overview in our own app, for example, you will see the smooth ProMotion experience.

But animations at 60 Hz mean that other interactions are significantly less fluid. Apollo developers Christian Selig has already received complaints from customers in this regard. Selig suspects that Apple introduced the 60Hz restriction to save the battery life of the iPhone models, because on the iPad Pro models, which also support ProMotion technology, there is no restriction and all animations are run at 120Hz. Unlike third-party applications, however, Apple's own apps always seem to run at 120Hz. It cannot currently be ruled out that this is a problem that Apple could fix in a future update.
